Answers to common questions about reading, following, replying and writing on WoolMap.

Reading and following
Do I need an account to read WoolMap?
No. Every profile, post, category and topic page is open to everyone, free, with no sign-up and no cookies for readers.
How do I follow a writer?
Use the “Follow (RSS)” button on their profile. It links to the writer’s feed at /handle/feed.xml, which you can add to any feed reader. For everything on the site, use /feed.xml.
What is the difference between a category and a topic?
A category belongs to one writer: it is a board on their profile, such as “Sock patterns”. A topic is a tag shared across the site, so the topic page collects posts on that subject from every writer who used it.
Why are there no likes or follower counts?
We would rather you judge a post by reading it. WoolMap only shows numbers that come from real content: posts, categories, replies and reading time.
Some posts are in Vietnamese. Is that expected?
Yes. Many of our writers publish in Vietnamese, and the site is built to display Vietnamese and other accented text cleanly. The interface itself is in English.
Replying
How do I reply to a post?
Scroll to the end of the post, enter your name and your message under “Write a reply” and press “Post reply”. No email address is needed.
Why doesn’t my reply show up straight away?
Guest replies are reviewed by moderators before they appear. This keeps threads free of spam. Replies that are not approved are deleted automatically after 30 days.
Can I edit or delete my reply?
Guest replies are not tied to an account, so they can’t be edited afterwards. If you need one removed, use the contact page with the topic “Report a post or comment” and include the post link.
Writing on WoolMap
How do I get a writer account?
Accounts are by invitation; there is no public sign-up. If you write about a craft, tell us about your work on the contact page using the topic “Writing here”.
What does a writer get?
A profile at /handle/ with portrait, bio and an optional website link, your own categories, posts with cover images and tags, a table of contents on long posts and your own RSS feed. See Features for the full list.
Who owns what I publish?
You do. You give WoolMap permission to host, display and distribute your posts (for example through RSS). The Terms explain the details.
Can I remove a post or my whole profile?
Yes. Ask through the contact page and we will take down individual posts or the entire profile.
Safety and privacy
How do I report a post or a reply?
Use the contact page, choose “Report a post or comment” and include the link. Moderators review every report. See the Guidelines for what is not allowed.
What data do you keep about me?
Very little: the name and text of replies, and what you send through the contact form. The Privacy notice lists everything, including how long it is kept.
